About Us

Dr. Theodore Cummings started this practice in 1952. Dr. Willard Hamilton joined Dr. Cummings in 1972, a partnership that continued until Dr. Cummings’ death in 1981. The business moved to its current location in 1984 in the former Hotel Caribou, now known as One Vaughn Place.

Over the years, the business has continued to grow, proudly serving people from all over Aroostook County. Dr. Hamilton is now retired but comes to visit during the summer months. When he turned the practice over to Drs. Savage and Jandreau in 2010, our name changed to Caribou Eyecare. Dr. Hamilton and his wife Chris now spend most of the year as residents of Florida.

Dr. James Savage has been a lifelong resident of Caribou. He attended college at the University of Maine at Orono, and continued on to optometry school at the New England College of Optometry in Boston. Graduating in 1984, he returned to Caribou to join the well established practice of Dr. Willard D. Hamilton. He has raised his three children here with his wife Fran.  Dr. Savage retired at the end of 2022

Dr. Daniel Jandreau went to the University of Maine at Farmington after graduating from Washburn High School, and also attended the New England College of Optometry, graduating in 1995. Dr. Jandreau joined our practice in 2000 after he spent a couple of years practicing in upstate New York. He has 3 daughters with his wife Stacy.

Dr.  Rachel Bradford obtained a bachelors of science in Chemical Engineering while completing courses toward pre-medical sciences at the University of Maine in 2017. She went on to work as a process engineer in the pulp and paper industry before exploring a career in the medical field as an ophthalmic technician with Northern Light Health. Her passion for eye care and rural medicine led her to attend Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences where she graduated in 2023 with a Doctorate of Optometry and Master of Public Health. She previously provided tele-optometry services in rural and under-served areas across 5 different states before joining Caribou Eyecare to return to her roots and serve the populations of Aroostook County, Maine. She and her husband enjoy raising their three young children and spending time in the great outdoors, as well as with their family and local church.
